What we see here is a typical old Bulgarian architecture, unique and rustic in style, covered in bushes, trees and a grapevine. What was really interesting to me while observing the inspiration for this painting was that the grapevine and the trees close to it had the same colour which is a very unusual sight. It made the house look embraced by nature. Next to the house is a high pine tree that looks like it is engaged in conversation with the house itself. The typical wall like the one seen here is made by stacking stones together by hand. Same goes for the little wall around the dry plum tree which children use as a bench - it can be seen in many Bulgarian villages. In the background there is a wooden barn and faraway houses. This is a beautiful view which slowly gets lost to time as less and less people appreciate the charm of this type of architecture and also move away to the big cities in search for jobs or education. Many of the houses I've drawn no longer exist for one reason or another, so I hope to capture this piece of history and make it immortal in my own way and give it to the painting's owner.

This is a painting done with the Alla Prima technique meaning it is done mostly in one sitting using still wet paint to move it around and mix. This allows for easy smudging and suggest of detail making the trees, for example, very soft, but leaving the house itself very crisp with the edges put once and left untouched after. It is a bright and serene painting giving relief and the viewer can almost hear the silence with running children in the dusty old roads somewhere in the distance.
